At approximately 8:20 a.m., the City of Chesapeake notified the Currituck County Communications Center that the 168 bypass (Chesapeake Expressway) in Chesapeake has been closed due to icy conditions. Chesapeake officials warned motorists to use extreme caution if using Rt. 17 north as an alternate route, also due to icy conditions.

An unknown caller made a bomb threat against a Chesapeake Bank at approximately 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, relates a press release from the City of Chesapeake.
The Bank of Hampton Roads branch located at the 4700 block of South Battlefield Blvd - located just north of the NC / VA Border on Route 168 - received a call shortly after 10 am, advising bank personnel to place an undisclosed amount of cash into a vehicle and drive that vehicle to a location in North Carolina. According to the press release, the caller stated that if the bank failed to follow those directions, a bomb located in the bank would be exploded.
