Currituck Democrats Prepare for May 4 Primary Election

Bowden to Receive State’s Top Civilian Award

Former Currituck County Commissioner and lifelong Currituck resident Ernie Bowden, will be awarded North Carolina’s highest civilian honor at a ceremony to be held during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, February 2, 2009.

By order of Governor Beverly Purdue, Bowden will receive The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The award will be presented on behalf of Governor Perdue by Sheila R. Tyler, Currituck County Clerk of Court.

“I swear, that last meeting of the Commish almost brought a tear to my eye,” Bubba professed to his good friend.

“Oh how is that?” LeRoy queried Bubba.

“Well it was just such a touching moment, when E.Z. Rider presented Ernie with that plaque and read the letter from Marc B.”, Bubba explained.

“Ahhh,” LeRoy expressed.

I swear, it just ain’t gonna be the same without the Ol’ Carova Cowboy up there,” Bubba lamented.

The Board of Commissioners meeting held Monday, December 1st marked many historical milestones.
The last meeting to convene a 5 member board, the first meeting to see a 7 member board, and the last meeting for veteran board member Ernie Bowden.
Bowden holds the distinction as one of Currituck County’s longest serving commissioners - serving six terms total - four of those consecutively from 1992 through 2008.

Currituck Board Expands to Seven members

Monday night will mark an historic event in the history of Currituck County government, when a newly elected At Large and District 2 commissioner will be added to the five member Board of Commissioners.
