Communications problems in the Currituck County 911 system, resulting from a lightning strike during this afternoon’s thunderstorm have been resolved, according to Mary Newns, director Currituck County Emergency Management.
County officials had reported that the 911 system was experiencing some problems after lightning strikes near the county offices in Currituck, around 3:49 this afternoon.

Currituck County, NC is experiencing interruptions in 9-1-1 service due to a lightning strike at the county’s Communications Center. County staff is currently working to fix this problem. Any citizen who calls 9-1-1 and does not receive an answer can reach a dispatcher by calling 252-232-2216 or 252-232-2424.

Update: As of 10:00 pm Friday evening, Currituck County Emergency Management personnel are working to resolve problems with the county 9*1*1 emergency system. Walter Cronkite, who personified television journalism for more than a generation as anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News,” has died. CBS vice president Linda Mason says Cronkite died at 7:42 p.m. Friday with his family by his side at his home in New York after a long illness. He was 92.
Citizens of Currituck dialing 911 may experience difficulties getting through due to technical issues after tonight’s storm. If you need to reach a dispatch operator, and cannot do so through 9*1*1, dial 232-2216.

A lone robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing the Gateway Bank location at 100 Moyock Commons Drive in Moyock on Friday afternoon.
According to information provided via a news release from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, at aproximately 3:50 pm Friday, the robber - a black male about 5 feet 9 inches in height and in his late thirties robbed the bank and then left on foot headed toward the adjacent Food Lion parking lot.
