Engel appointed as State Health Director

     Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Lanier Cansler today announced the appointment of Dr. Jeffery P. Engel, M.D., as North Carolina State Health Director. N.C. FORECLOSURE PLAN TO BE NATIONAL MODEL

Gov. Mike Easley today briefed National Attorneys General Association members at a conference in Fort Lauderdale on North Carolina’s ground-breaking Home Foreclosure Prevention Program. The National Governors Association is recommending national legislation based on North Carolina’s program, which Easley signed into law this summer. Earlier this week the governor discussed the foreclosure prevention program with President-elect Barack Obama and the National Governors Association in Philadelphia.

Easley Announces Jobs in Burke Co.

Gov. Mike Easley announced today that Sypris Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Louisville-based Sypris Solutions Inc. that makes components for truck axles, will invest $25.4 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Burke County and add 203 jobs by the end of 2013. The project was made possible in part by a Job Development Investment Grant.

State Teaching Survey Results Announced

Gov. Mike Easley today announced results of the 2008 Teacher Working Conditions Survey. A record number of more than 104,000 educators from every public school in the state completed the survey last spring. The survey helps shape state education policy, strengthen classroom working conditions and enhance the learning environment for students. Findings from the survey were released during the North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Conference held today in Cary.

Gov. Easley reappoints Brown, Khoury and Long to Roanoke Island Commission

Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley has reappointed Betsy E. Brown of Chapel Hill and Manteo, Angel Ellis Khoury of Manteo and Robert Long of Chapel Hill to the Roanoke Island Commission.
