Wakefield, Va ~ The National Weather Service Office in Wakefield, Virginia has issued a wind advisory for mainland Currituck County and the Currituck Outer Banks, from 5 pm Wednesday, January 30 through 5 am Thursday, January 31.
South to southwest winds averaging 20 to 30 mph, with gusts from 45 to 50 mph are expected. Gusting winds may be capable of downing trees, and utility lines.
A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph or gusts in excess of 45 mph are expected. Winds that strong may make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Drivers should use caution.
