School District Keeps Eye on Tropical Weather
Parents Encouraged to Monitor Local Media
The Administrative Team for the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public
Schools (ECPPS) is beginning preparations for the possibility of
tropical weather later this week. According to Superintendent Linwood
Williams, district officials are receiving periodic updates from the
Pasquotank County Emergency Management Services. In the event that
Hurricane Earl moves through northeastern North Carolina, the district
may close schools as conditions warrant. “It is too early to determine
the effect on our area; however, our team will be prepared once official
notification is made,” Williams said.
The ECPPS Maintenance Department, in coordination with school
custodians, will begin preparing to secure school campuses soon. Other
departments in the district will take measures to back-up software,
protect equipment, and be ready in the event of a storm.
Parents are encouraged to monitor the situation over the next few days
for any possible district announcements. Local media outlets include:
Time Warner Cable TV (8); WTKR-TV (3); WAVY-TV (10); WVEC-TV (13);
WGAI-AM (560), WCNC-AM (1240); WRVS-FM (89.9); WWOC-FM (94.5); WKJX-FM
(96.7); WCXL-FM (104.1); WRSF-FM (105.7); WVOD-FM (99.1); The Daily
Advance and The Virginian-Pilot.
The school district will also send announcements via the School
Connects Parent Notification Phone System and set-up an Information
Hotline available after business hours for the latest updates at:
335-2981.
