Earl May Render Beach Road Impassable
All citizens in the 4-wheel drive area of Carova in Currituck County must be aware of impending dangers brought by Hurricane Earl in the next two days. The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane watch for Currituck County.
As Hurricane Earl approaches on Thursday, the Outer Banks will have rough surf, breakers up to 12’ and minimum to moderate beach erosion. These effects may render the beach road connecting Carova to Corolla impassable for motorists by Thursday afternoon. The beach may remain impassable into Friday afternoon. Sustained winds of at least 39 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected from 9 p.m. Thursday until 9 a.m. Friday.
At this time, no evacuations have been issued in Currituck County. But due to these impending dangers, vacationers and residents in Carova should consider vacating the 4-wheel drive area before the beach road is impassable.
