Harbinger, NC - Aloysius Anthony Krempel, 90, of Harbinger, North Carolina, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at his home. Born September 18, 1919 in Hambrueken, Germany, he was the son of Joseph and Rosa (Weinreuter) Krempel. Gertrude and Joseph Houck, owners of a dairy farm, sponsored the Krempel family when they immigrated to Ohio in August of 1928, when Al was nine years old. Shortly after moving to Ohio, Al’s parents owned a farm next to the Houck family’s farm. Al was involved in the Liederkranz and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. A great handyman, Al enjoyed helping his friends build homes, and built his own home as well. Al used to refer to himself as “A man of many trades, but a master of none“.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, C. Jane (Stockert) Krempel; children, Diana T. Krempel, Dr. Bonita (Krempel) Portier and her husband, Dr. William Portier, Michael A. Krempel, JoAnne (Krempel) Hoover, Father Matthew (John) Krempel, Steven D. and Mary (Thull) Krempel; grandchildren, Mark A. Krempel, Phillip S. Portier, Anathea E. Portier-Young, PHD, Laura J. Portier-LaLumiere, Jennifer L. (Krempel) Bieder, Daniel E. Krempel, Robert A. (Krempel) Kepner, and Kenneth M. Krempel; great-grandchildren, Sloan, Taylor J., William Portier, Sebastian C. Young, Ethan and Anna LaLumiere, Alex Bieder, and Makenna A. Krempel; brother, William Krempel; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Max Krempel, Joseph Krempel, Marie Tyler, and Irma Gerhring; and dearly loved grandson, T. Andrew Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial followed at Mansfield Cemetery in Mansfield, Ohio.
