Owens, Cindy Cox - Obituary

Aydlett - Cindy Cox Owens, 61, of 103 Bunch Road, Aydlett, NC died Friday, June 25, 2010 at her residence. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Cox and of Elizabeth and Aubrey Snowden of Bells Island, NC and was the wife of Dr. James Owens of the residence. Mrs. Owens was a member of Powells Point Christian Church and had made many overseas mission trips where she touched thousands of children’s lives. She was a former teacher at Currituck High School. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Owens is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Newbern Smith and husband Bobby of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Nicole Newbern Derby of Powells Point, NC; a sister, Rita Saunders and husband Steve of Maple, NC; a brother, Jack Cox and wife Alberta of Camden, NC; and five grandchildren, Josiah Derby, Zoe Smith, Chloe Derby, Jeremiah Derby, and Jonah Derby. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Phillip Newbern.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Powells Point Christian Church with Rev. David Coxson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at all other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Haiti School Fund at Powells Point Christian Church, 197 Church Road, Harbinger, NC 27941 to help build schools in Haiti.
