Update: As of 10:00 pm Friday evening, Currituck County Emergency Management personnel are working to resolve problems with the county 9*1*1 emergency system. According to Mary Beth Newns, director of Currituck County Emergency Management, a lightning strike during this evenings severe thunderstorms disrupted computer systems at Currituck Central Communications adjacent to the Historic Courthouse.
As a result of the disruptions, the departments computer aided “geo-location” system is not functioning. This is the system which automatically refereces calls to their correct physical address.
Ms. Newns stated that county emergency management personnel are working to resolve the problem and should citizens need to call for an emergency, they should call Communications at (252) 232-2216.
