The State of North Carolina has created legislation to improve drought management by requiring separate water meters for in-ground irrigation systems. This new law takes affect on July 1, 2009.
House Bill 2499, titled: An act to improve drought preparedness and response in North Carolina, as recommended by the Environmental Review Commission in Section 9a, enacts that local government water systems and large community water systems shall require separate meters for new in-ground irrigation systems that are connected to their systems.
