Currituck Announces July 4th Festivities

Currituck County’s 17th Annual Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display will be highlighted by a concert by country music star Stephen Cochran. The celebration, set for Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla, will get underway at 5:00 p.m. It will also include a fireworks display, children’s games and activities, and food vendors, as well as live music by local band The Boomerangs.

Stephen Cochran’s performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the fireworks show to start at dusk. Cochran, a decorated Marine veteran who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, released his latest single, “Wal-Mart Flowers,” on April 13. The single is currently climbing the country music charts.

Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit Thanks USA, a non-profit organization that provides post-secondary, need-based educational scholarships to children and spouses of active-duty U.S. military personnel.

* NO ALCOHOL will be permitted on the grounds of Currituck Heritage Park,

* NO ON-STREET PARKING will be available, and

* The boat ramp at the Whalehead Club will be CLOSED on July 4.
