Michael Halminsky will display his work at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse on Kitty Hawk Road from March 22 to May 22.
Halminski has been photographing on the Outer Banks ever since he moved to Hatteras Island over 35 years ago. His work is marked by his skill as an artist and by his intimate knowledge of the people, wildlife and landscapes of the area. Along with shooting his pictures, he considers printmaking an integral part of the process, always doing his own printing. From the very beginning he has worked in a traditional wet darkroom, producing images primarily in color but also some black & white. Since switching to a digital format 6 years ago, he now uses computers and inkjet printers.
Michael’s exhibit of 20 images will showcase some previous darkroom prints, but will mostly feature more recent digital photography using pigmented inks made on an Epson printer.
He makes his living primarily by selling fine art prints out of his gallery located in Waves, but has also freelanced for a variety of magazines and been widely published locally as well as internationally.
There will be an opening reception on March 22 at 11:45 following the Sunday service and the photographer will give a talk. The lay-led service begins at 10:30 and the topic is “The Many Ideas and Images of God.” The public is welcome to attend either or both events. The exhibit can also be seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-5 and Wednesdays, 9-12.
