Mutro, Theodore : Obituary

Ocracoke, NC - Theodore Mutro, 88, died Monday, March 2, 2009 in Ocracoke. Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Mithell and Anastasia “Nellie” Mutro. He was stationed at Ocracoke with the United States Coast Guard in 1941 and was the last living member of the burial detail during World War II for Stanley Craig and Sub. Lt. Tom Cunningham of the HMT Bedfordshire. After being discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard, he went on to work for the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers and the NC Department of Transportation, Ferry Division.

Besides his parents, Mr. Mutro was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Styron Mutro and a daughter, Dorothy Williams. He is survived by a brother, Coty and wife Marge of Chester, PA; a sister, Helen and husband Don of Chester, PA; two daughters, Mable Gaskins and Evlena Mutro both of Ocracoke; a son, Anthony Mutro of Ocracoke; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He and his wife raised and is survived by a niece, Suzanne Durivage of Pennsylvania and a nephew, Sam Lewis of California.

A graveside service will be held at the Ocracoke Community Cemetery on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Donations may be made to the Ocracoke Assembly of God, Ocracoke United Methodist Church, or to the Ocracoke Fire Department.
