O’Neal, Dan Dexter : Obituary

Hatteras, NC - Dan Dexter O’Neal, 58, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at his residence. Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Kathrine and Beverly Moss O’Neal and was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Cassidy O’Neal. He was a Captain with the NCDOT Ferry Division, a sergeant with the US Army Reserves, and was a forty year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he was a Past VA State President and Regional Officer.

Mr. O’Neal is survived by his wife, Marianne Nielsen O’Neal; two sons, Gregory O’Neal and wife Martha and Michael Brauer; two daughters, Debra Hendricks and husband Thomas and Patricia Soukup and husband William; six grandchildren, Danica J. O’Neal, Cassidy R. O’Neal, Amanda G. Oppenheim, Sarah K. Hendricks, Katelyn G. Hendricks, and Seth A. Hendricks and wife Amber; and numerous cousins and friends, too many to mention but much appreciated and loved.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Hatteras United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Moseley and the Rev. Cory Oliver. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk, VA on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home, Hatteras on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 8109, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
