NWS Posts Winter Weather Advisory

“Snow Likely” says Forecasters

Weather forecasters placed Northeastern North Carolina and Southside Hampton Roads under a Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday evening. According to National Weather Service forecasts, a developing low-pressure area will move along the North Carolina and Virginia border late in the evening Tueaday and into Wednesday morning, bringing the possibility of precipitation.

With overnight lows forecast in the mid-20’s across the area, local meteorologists predict any precipitation which falls will be in the form of snow.

Forecasts call cloudy conditions, a low of 26 degrees and a 70% chance of precipitation overnight, with snow overspreading the area after midnight and accumulations of less than a half an inch.

A 90% chance of snow is forecast for Wednesday, mainly before noon. Total new snow accumulations are predicted at 1 to 2 inches. The high temperature Wednesday is predicted to be 37 degrees.

The Winter Weather Advisory includes the Northeastern North Carolina counties of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans.

The Southeastern Virginia municipalities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach are under a special weather advisory.

The Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect through 12 noon on Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties in the forecast areas. Travellers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility, and are advised to use caution while driving.
