Griffin, Albert Lindsay - Obituary

Grandy - Albert Lindsay Griffin, 74, of 550 Poplar Branch Road, Grandy, N.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 after a courageous seventeen-month battle with lung cancer. Born August 20, 1934, in Falkland, N.C., he was the son of the late Paul and Alice B. Griffin. At the age of three, the family moved to South Norfolk, Va., where he graduated from South Norfolk High School in 1953. In 1957, he began work with National Bank of Commerce, a predecessor of Bank of America, and retired as Vice President in 1994. Al enjoyed golfing, sailing and especially duck hunting when he moved to his retirement home in Poplar Branch. He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Doris Owens Griffin; daughter, Pamela L Ciula and husband Pete, of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Rev. James E. Griffith and wife Jeanette of Lynchburg, Va.; and brother-in-law, Charles W. Owens of Charlotte, N.C. Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at 2p.m. at the Poplar Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Oliver and Rev. Ed Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following services.
