Routte 168 closed to traffic in vicinity of NC / VA Border
An unknown caller made a bomb threat against a Chesapeake Bank at approximately 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, relates a press release from the City of Chesapeake.
The Bank of Hampton Roads branch located at the 4700 block of South Battlefield Blvd - located just north of the NC / VA Border on Route 168 - received a call shortly after 10 am, advising bank personnel to place an undisclosed amount of cash into a vehicle and drive that vehicle to a location in North Carolina. According to the press release, the caller stated that if the bank failed to follow those directions, a bomb located in the bank would be exploded.
Upon receipt of the threat, bank personnel contacted the Chesapeake Police Department. Chesapeake Police and Fire personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the threat, and were awaiting arrival of a Virginia State Police Bomb Squad. Officials closed off Route
