Bank Robbery Reported in Moyock

For the second time in a little more than a month, the Currituck Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery of a Moyock Bank.

According to a press release from Currituck Public Information Officer, Randall Edwards, a bank robbery occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Bank of the Commonwealth, 562 Caratoke Highway, in Moyock.

Edwards related that an unidentified person got away from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was reported to be unarmed at the time of the robbery, which took place at approximately 3:15 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Officials from the Currituck Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the suspect left the bank traveling north on Caratoke Highway, driving a blue Chevrolet Cavalier.

The Currituck Sheriff’s Office is working in cooperation with law enforcement in Virginia, as well as officials from the Bank of the Commonwealth.

On the afternoon of Friday, November 21, 2008 a lone robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing the Gateway Bank location at 100 Moyock Commons Drive in Moyock.

The suspect in the November robbery was described as wearing a gray sweater, grey beanie hat and black or dark colored pants. According to the news release no weapon was displayed in the course of the robbery.

According to information provided via a news release from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, the robber - a black male about 5 feet 9 inches in height and in his late thirties robbed the bank and then left on foot headed toward the adjacent Food Lion parking lot.
