Unknown callers made bomb threats within an hour of each other against two local banks Friday. The firs call came Friday around 10:00 a.m. to The Bank of Hampton Roads location just north of the NC/VA State line in Moyock. According to a press release from the City of Chesapeake, the caller demanded an undisclosed sum of money be placed in a car and driven to a location in North Carolina. The caller went on to state that if the bank did not comply, a bomb placed at the bank would be detonated.
An unknown caller made a bomb threat against a Chesapeake Bank at approximately 10:00 a.m. Friday morning, relates a press release from the City of Chesapeake.
The Bank of Hampton Roads branch located at the 4700 block of South Battlefield Blvd - located just north of the NC / VA Border on Route 168 - received a call shortly after 10 am, advising bank personnel to place an undisclosed amount of cash into a vehicle and drive that vehicle to a location in North Carolina. According to the press release, the caller stated that if the bank failed to follow those directions, a bomb located in the bank would be exploded.

Hampton Roads weather forecasters took one for the team Tuesday, as a much hyped winter storm failed to materialize as predicted. Forecasters were forced to eat crow by midday on Tuesday, as the winter storm developed on a more southerly track than anticipated.
As late as Monday evening, forecasters had called for accumulations of 1″ - 3″ in southside Hampton Roads, with accumulations of up to 6″ expected in Northeastern North Carolina.
The storm, which resulted from an upper level disturbance moving off the coast, developed further offshore than forecasters originilly predicted. Snow accumulations started at 1 inch just south of the Coinjock area in Currituck, and increased toward a maximum of 4 inches in Dare County. Locally heavier accumulations were observed.
The National Weather Service iN Wakefield, Virginia issued a Winter Storm Warning at 4:44 pm Monday, January 19. The Currituck County Board of Commissioners at their Monday, January 5 meeting completed the second step in adjusting county advisory boards. In several agenda items, the Board reviewed commissioner’s appointments of citizen members to several of the county advisory boards: Board of Adjustment, Planning Board, and Economic Development Board.
County manager Dan Scanlon explained, that at their previous meeting, the Bord adopted new procedures for commissioner’s appointments to several county advisory boards. As part of that procedure, county staf members had taken current appointees and assigned them to a commissioner. The current board appointments were laid out in each commissioner’s agenda package.

For the second time in a little more than a month, the Currituck Sheriff’s Office is investigating the robbery of a Moyock Bank.
According to a press release from Currituck Public Information Officer, Randall Edwards, a bank robbery occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Bank of the Commonwealth, 562 Caratoke Highway, in Moyock.
Edwards related that an unidentified person got away from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was reported to be unarmed at the time of the robbery, which took place at approximately 3:15 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Currituck County will host a community meeting intended to share information and receive citizen feedback regarding the proposed construction of a 1.06 mile greenway, or multi use path, in the Corolla community. All Currituck County residents are invited to attend.

The Currituck County Board of Commissioner approved changes to the ordinance which stipulates the method by which county advisory board members are selected and how long they may serve.
According to a presentation by County Attorney, Ike McRee, the ordinance considered at the Monday, December 15 meeting is the first of a two step process whichwill provide each member of the Currituck County Board of Commissioners with appointments to the boards, commissioners and authorities that are created and appointed by the Currituck County Board of Commissioners.
