Finally, a chance to ring a church bell! A once in a lifetime opportunity…a chance to ring a historic church bell (at least 150 years old) in a church that is celebrating its 200th anniversary!

Have you ever wanted to ring a church bell? Well, New Hope UMC is offering you that once in a lifetime opportunity on Saturday, January 3, 2009 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The bell, located in their belfry, is used to announce worship each Sunday. Jim Darnell, the official bell ringer since 1964, will supervise all those who desire the opportunity ring this historic bell in this historic church.

Each ringer, for their $5.00 donation or more to the church, will receive the opportunity to make one good pull on the ropes, ringing the bell. Each ringer will receive a beautiful, suitable for framing color certificate, with their name, date, title of honorary bell ringer at New Hope UM Church. It will be signed by the both the Pastor and the official bell ringer from New Hope UMC. The Certificate will be either mailed or delivered to each ringer.

“This should be an exciting day for all, young and old” said Pastor Bill Masciangelo. “I can’t wait until January 3rd to get in line. How many people can actually say they rang a church bell? Not many I expect.”

To support this event, the United Methodist Men of New Hope will be holding their well known and delicious Chicken Pot Pie Lunch from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Lunch will include chicken pot pie, cornbread, and tea for a donation of $6.00. You can eat-in or take-out. If you eat-in IT’S ALL YOU CAN EAT so bring your appetite. For the children there will be hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. The United Methodist Women will also have homemade baked good on sale that will be priced as marked. Come early as the baked goods go fast!

All events will be held inside so cold, rain, or snow will not be an issue.

New Hope UMC is located at 2098 New Hope Road in Hertford, NC, intersection of New Hope Road and Woodville Road. New Hope UMC is celebrating their 200th Anniversary during 2009. This event is part of a year long celebration. For more information about bi-centennial activities for New Hope visit their website at www.nhumc.info or call Pastor Bill at 252-455-7117.
