Smith, William J. - Obituary

Grandy - William “Bill” Judson Smith born to Bruce and Frances Smith Oct. 13, 1935 died from natural causes on Dec. 10, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Smith. Surviving him are his children, Jeff Smith and fiancée, Marcy Walker, Stephanie Swain and husband, Timmy, James McCario and fiancée, Myrtle Dowdy, of Grandy, Michelle Vaughn, and husband, Robert Jr. of Pensacola Fla.; a sister Kaye Rothrock and husband, Harvey; a brother, Jackie Smith, his wife, Debbie, son, Taylor Smith, son Darin Smith and fiancée, Stephanie Flowers, of Grandy; grandchildren Brittanie Smith, Dustin Smith, Asheley Austin, Kristin Austin, Allison Swain, Robert Vaughn, Ciarra Vaughn and Jonathan Dowdy. Bill served in the United States Air Force for 14 years as well as a tour of duty in Saigon, Viet Nam. Mr. Smith was a hunting and fishing guide in Currituck County, NC for many years. A celebration of his life will be held at the residence, 107 Mallard Street on December 20th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association, c/o Brenda Dail, P O Box 220, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
