A lengthy career of public service was honored by many on Dec. 1, 2008, as outgoing Commissioner Ernie Bowden attended his final meeting as a member of the Board of Commissioners.

Bowden served a total of 24 years as County Commissioner and has been involved in many events, projects and initiatives throughout his tenure. He represented the electoral areas of the Currituck Outer Banks and Knotts Island.

During the Dec. 1 meeting, Bowden received several recognitions for his outstanding service. These included messages from the county, N.C. Senator Marc Basnight and the Carova Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
