| Brown is the vice provost for faculty affairs at N.C. State University in Raleigh. She is a member of the Historic Properties Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and the Association of International Education Administrators. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English from Appalachian State University and received her Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in English from the Ohio State University. | |||
| Khoury is a writer. She is secretary of Friends of Elizabeth II and on the Outer Banks Commission Board of Directors. Khoury received her Bachelor’s degree in history, government and sociology from the University of Virginia. | |||
| Long is principal of the Theatre Consultants Collaborative. He is a board member of the Roanoke Island Historic Association and former president of the American Society of Theatre Consultants. Long received his Bachelor’s degree in dramatic arts from UNC at Chapel Hill and his Master’s degree in fine arts from the Yale University School of Drama | |||
| The commission’s duties are to advise the secretary of Transportation and the secretary of Cultural Resources on matters pertaining to the restoration, preservation and enhancement of the appearance and aesthetic quality of U.S. Highway 64/264 and N.C. 400 travel corridors on Roanoke Island. The board has 25 members, each serving a two-year term. The governor appoints seven members. The Senate President Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House each appoint six members. The governor, the attorney general, the secretary of Cultural Resources and the secretary of Transportation each have designees serving on their behalf. The chair of the Dare County Board of Commissioners and the mayor of Manteo also serve on the board by virtue of their positions. | |||
