The Currituck County Board of Commissioners at their Monday, February 18 meeting voted to approve the purchase of the former Courtesy Ford Dealership property in Moyock for use as a County Visitors Center to be operated by Currituck County Travel and Tourism Department.
The purchase price for the two parcels of property to be acquired totals $1.55 million. According to County Manager Dan Scanlon, the total appraised value on the three parcels of property owned by Frank Bernard total $2.5 million. Scanlon noted in his presentation that the two parcels to be acquired by the county are assessed at over $1.4 million on the conty tax books.
The board gave unanimous approval to authorize Scanlon and the County Attorney, Donald “Ike” McRee to close on the purchase of the property.
County officials are hoping to have the visitor’s center open in April of this year.
